Alpine Meadows, 3/4

Back to the main trip page

Saturday, 3/4, dawned bright and clear with a storm total of over 3 feet. Squaw is famous not only for good terrain, but for huge crowds on the weekends. With such a nice day, we knew it would be worse than normal, so we made the 10 min drive over to Alpine Meadows instead.

Alpine Meadows is the next valley over from Squaw. You can actually see the entire base area from the top of the KT-22 lift. They have the same weather, and got the same great storm that Squaw did. However, for some reason far fewer people go to Alpine Meadows on any given day. It's a great area though: lift tickets are cheaper, the lift system is excellent, and the terrain is fantastic with a lot of stuff you can only hike to.

The conditions were fantastic: sunny skies, and bottomless powder in many places. We had a lot of fun exploring the mountain and we were even able to find some fresh tracks towards the end of the day!
