Driving from Seattle to Jackson Hole, 2/18

Back to the main trip page

The drive out to Jackson was great. We left at 6am and got in 14 hours later with no issues at all. Streets & Trips projected 13 hours, but we stopped for an hour for dinner in Idaho Falls. The best part of this drive is Western Montana... the scenery is beautiful. I swear the hills are made of velvet.

Wild Horse Monument crossing the Columbia River.

Duct tape plus a hand-held GPS receiver gets you an instant in-car navigation system!

In Montana, just past the border with Idaho.

Getting gas south of Butte, MT. This completely unattended gas station is cool... you can see all of it in this picture. The tank in the background is the gas tank.

You get one kind of gas at that gas station...

It was pretty cold for most of the drive. The high we saw was 18F: at the beginning and end of the trip. It was 9F more often than not, and near the Montana/Idaho border (second time, on I15) it was -6F!

We entered Idaho again in the evening.

Much of the drive through Idaho looked like this. Lots of blowing snow.
